What is the objective of coaching?
The main objective of the coach is to listen carefully to what is being said by the individual & then ask calculated & powerful questions to get the individual to think clearly & ultimately see the path that is required to make significant changes. The individual will learn to become totally aware of their thoughts, categorise these thoughts accordingly & then control them to the best of their ability. The individual’s strengths will be identified & then enhanced in order for them to capitalize on opportunities & minimise obstacles. The individual must act autonomously under the guidance of the coach, as they need to be in control of the decisions & actions necessary to create a happier & more fulfilling life
Breakdown of the coaching process
The initial conversation
This is to build rapport between the coach & the individual & for the coach to receive clarification on why coaching is required.
Building context & needs analysis
The individual will then go into detail regarding their situation & the coach will focus on deep listening & ask a series of questions to open the individual up & get a better understanding of where their needs lie & where the coach may be able to assist
The coach will offer insight as to what they feel the individual may be experiencing & why they behave or act in a certain way. It is to allow the individual to see things from a different point of view & try to get a new perspective on their situation &determine why they have not been able to achieve their goals & how to change this
Goal setting including sub-goals
This is when the individual will decide on the goals they would like to set & achieve for the week ahead. They will identify what their ultimate goal is & then set sub-goals, which are small, yet effective goals, that will lead them to achieve the ultimate goal
Bridging the gap between goal setting & goal achievement
The coach will ensure that the individual has all the necessary resources & will offer full support to help the individual achieve sub-goals
Finalise strategy & clarification
This is an opportunity for the individual to ask any final questions & to ensure that they know what is expected of them, how they will achieve their goals a& what deadlines need to be set before closing the session
